The Animation School is a leading animation institution based in South Africa, internationally recognised for the excellence of its academic programmes and the outstanding quality of its student productions. Ranked 11th among the world’s best animation schools and 1st in South Africa, it attracts talented students each year who aspire to careers in animation, game design and digital arts.
To support its continued growth and meet the expectations of a new generation of students, The Animation School set out to modernise its digital presence through a full website redesign built on HubSpot CMS.
Strengthen the school’s international positioning through a modernised digital identity that reflects its global reputation for excellence and reinforces its credibility on the world stage.
Improve user experience (UX) by streamlining navigation and structuring pages with simple, clear and high-performing modules.
Simplify content management and editing through a custom HubSpot theme, designed to give teams greater autonomy while optimising website performance.

Make the Grade built on the strongest elements of The Animation School’s visual identity to create a modern, immersive and engaging digital experience for prospective students. The new design captures the school’s creative DNA while clearly showcasing the quality and diversity of student work.
The result is an elegant yet expressive visual universe that reflects the school’s artistic excellence and reinforces its positioning as a leading international animation school.
Dual typography system for headings, designed to highlight key ideas and create visual hierarchy across pages.
Custom colour gradients to introduce depth, movement and strategic accents, helping draw attention to priority content throughout the site.
Animation-inspired graphic elements (timelines, construction lines, labels and visual markers) to strengthen brand identity, guide users through the site and enhance engagement from the first interaction.
Each section was designed to give content room to breathe, with subtle animations and flexible modules that make it easy to showcase new creative work. The main objective was to deliver a memorable and aesthetically engaging experience for future students.
Every design choice reflects both the academic rigour and the creative mindsetthat define The Animation School.
Beyond visual design, the user experience was fully reimagined to support the school’s recruitment goals and guide visitors towards meaningful actions: exploring programmes, applying online or registering for open days.
A clear and intuitive navigation structure was implemented through a structured mega menu, enhanced with icons to help users quickly identify programmes, campuses, admission requirements and key events.
To improve conversion rates, multi-step application forms were introduced. This approach reduces friction, feels less overwhelming for users and significantly improves form completion rates, while delivering higher-quality leads to the admissions team.
Social proof was also central to the UX strategy, with the integration of:
alumni testimonials,
a message from the school director,
student awards and project recognitions.
These elements reinforce trust, credibility and the perceived value of the school for both prospective students and their parents.
12 design mockups laid the foundations of the website’s new visual identity, ensuring a cohesive redesign aligned with the school’s premium positioning.
A custom set of 30 icons was designed specifically for The Animation School, improving clarity around programme formats while reinforcing visual consistency across the site.
Make the Grade delivered a fully structured, high-performing and easily editable website. The operational team was also trained on the HubSpot CMS, enabling full autonomy in managing text, images and links.
